Today penguins and Gnomes have made me a little stupider…

After reading my news feed and hearing this joke:

A man drives to a gas station and has his tank filled up. The gas pumper spots two penguins sitting in the back seat of the car.
He asks the driver, “What’s up with the penguins in the back seat?”
The man in the car says “I found them. I asked myself what to do with them, but I haven’t had a clue.”
The clerk ponders a bit then says, “You should take them to the zoo.”
“Hey, that’s a good idea,” says the man in the car and drives away.
The next day the man with the car is back at the same gas station. The clerk sees the penguins are still in the back seat of the car.
“Hey, they’re still here! I thought you were going to take them to the zoo.”
“Oh, I did,” says the driver, “And we had a swell time. Today I am taking them to the beach.”

I also got a news feed on my RSS today about a 50+ year old Gnome russler… yes, a Gnome russler… apparently, he went on a Gnome stealing spree and managed to steal 170 Gnomes.  He was arrested in the Brittany province of France last week.

Even sadder, there have been reports of more Gnome thefts in Berlin.  According to the article, some report that they’ve been taken to France and “released”.

And all of this is nothing new.  Opposing Gnome organizations have also been formed!
…an International Society for the Protection of Garden Gnomes…
…the Garden Gnome Liberation Front…

After commenting on this to a friend of mine in the UK, his surprising reply: “Oh yes, it s a well known international plague, my mum had to replace her gnomes at least 3 times!”

Well, now the Gnome russler now faces jailtime and is currently thinking about how to break the news to his family… Sorry dear, I’ll be going away for a while because I couldn’t bear seeing these garden Gnomes being held against their will and at the mercy of their gardening captors any longer.  I saw it was necessary for me to sacrifice myself in order to organize the largest Gnome-break in the history of Gnomedom.

If you too want to loose a few brain cells by reading the story, be my guest:

And I will now leave you all with an appropriate quote from Henry David Thoreau:
Not only must we be good, but we must also be good for something.
